Homepage updates, server restart and mcabber packages Sept. 23, 2016, 11:01 a.m. by mati
Our homepage is progressing nicely. We regulary push updates. If you want to read a pretty detailed and still incomplete changelog, you can do so here.
On Wednesday, our server experienced connection issues with other servers, so contacts from other servers appeared offline. We had to restart the server to fix the issue.
If you use Debian/Ubuntu and prefer the command line, note that we now (again) have up-to-date mcabber packages in our APT repositories. Packages are available for all currently supported distributions in the
Certificate fingerprints updates Sept. 13, 2016, 4:17 p.m. by mati
Users of Gajim have probably noticed a few notifications about changed TLS certificates on our servers.
Due to our transition to Let's Encrypt, our certificates no longer change once every two years, but every two to three months. We thus no longer explicitly publish fingerprints on our homepage, since it is an additional burden and only Gajim users are affected by it. Gajim itsell removes this check in the next version, since it not really gives any security benefit. Our domains are secured with DNSSec and DANE and the used certificate can easily be verified in a cryptographically secure manner e.g. using xmpp.net.
Welcome to our new homepage! Sept. 3, 2016, 1:55 p.m. by mati
As you can propably see, we have a new homepage. The old homepage (based on Drupal7) was slow and unresponsive and hard to extend with XMPP based functionality. Drupal 7 is an incredibly flexible software allowing you to do almost everything with it - but we only used a minor part of that functionality anyway.
So we've written or own smalll blog (that is already much faster) and already integrated the previously off-site functionality of registering a new account and requesting a password reset. We hope this provides a much better user experience.
We still have quite a TODO list, and most certainly there are still bugs. But we already have plenty of ideas to improve this homepage further, we at least want to integrate a webchat (again!) and allow you to manage file uploaded directly to the server.
